Set in Denmark, The Boy in the Suitcase is the first in the series written by duo Lene Kaaberbole and Agnete Friis. The protagonist is Red Cross nurse Nina Borg, wife and mother. But when her estranged friend Karin ask her to retrieve a suitcase from a locker at the train station against her better judgment she goes. Nina unlocks the locker and finds a heavy suitcase. Nina opens the suitcase to find a small boy inside still alive.

When she tracks down Karin for answers, she is found dead. Nina’s life and that of the boy she is compelled to protect are now in danger. On the other side of town, a young mother named Sigita finds herself in the hospital with no recollection of how she got there only to discover that her son is missing. The characters finally intersect in a violent and climatic conclusion. Strong kick-ass female characters reconcile the poor choices they have made and eventually deliver their own form of justice.
