The Dazzling Heights (Thousandth Floor)

Review

The Dazzling Heights (Thousandth Floor)

An enchanting and fascinating sequel, THE DAZZLING HEIGHTS follows most of the characters from the previous book, THE THOUSANDTH FLOOR, as their lives become even more complicated and twisted. Katherine McGee writes a satisfying sequel where the secrets grow darker, the relationships grow more complicated and the lies grow much bigger. Taking place almost immediately after THE THOUSANDTH FLOOR, this book reunites readers with Avery and the others, who are still mourning the death of their friend all while dealing with the various mistakes they made that placed them on the rooftop that night.

Now I’ll start this review off honestly and say that I wasn’t the biggest fan of THE THOUSANDTH FLOOR when I first read it. Though there were aspects I enjoyed, the book as a whole definitely did not make my all-time favorites list. The author managed to still hook me, though, and I went into the second book optimistic and eager to see how the characters move on from the events of the previous book.

"THE DAZZLING HEIGHTS was not only a satisfying sequel, but much more enjoyable than the book that came before it....The series just seems to get better and better the more books come out...."

For me, THE DAZZLING HEIGHTS was not only a satisfying sequel, but much more enjoyable than the book that came before it. The characters grew a little more from their mistakes and while there is still drama like the last book, it does not seem as petty this time around. There’s darker twists this time, with the prologue of the book setting up the ending for another enormous tragedy. One thing I really enjoyed was seeing how relationships changed between certain characters. There were relationships created that I never could have guessed would happen but instantly shipped, and friendships started that made me feel overjoyed. There was also a new character introduced in this book and I adored her! The individual plot and character arc that she had was, without a doubt, the most fascinating.

One thing that I’ve also consistently loved about this series is the world itself. I find the world so fascinating and the technology that the characters use is always interesting. Everything about the setting of the book screams futuristic and makes for an awesome science fiction series. Though I always loved getting miscellaneous details about the world and technology, I wish it was a larger part of the story. I could read about it forever! While I usually like the characters interacting with the setting and there being a larger purpose to the setting in books, I feel like in THE DAZZLING HEIGHTS the details about the setting were only thrown in randomly when there needed to be a wow factor.

THE DAZZLING HEIGHTS was a strong sequel and only makes me wonder where the third one could go from here. The series just seems to get better and better the more books come out, which is exactly how a series should be. I highly recommend it to any fans of the drama that shows like “Gossip Girl” and “Pretty Little Liars” have!
